Born in Caracas, Venezuela, he is a member of a dynasty of musicians and singers like his father “El Negro” José Quintero and his siblings Maricruz and Frank Quintero.

 

Graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where Leo was a faculty member (From 1991 to 1995).

 

He was also a student of Charlie Banacos.

 

Previously, he studied in Venezuela as a pupil of Vicente Emilio Sojo, Inocente Carreño, Aldemaro Romero and Manuel Enrique Pérez Díaz.

 

Leo began his career in popular music in the mid-1970s with groups such as Los Cuñaos, Frank Quintero, El Trabuco Venezolano and Vitas Brenner, both as an instrumentalist and as a composer.

 

Currently residing in Miami, FL he continues his legacy as a guitarist and composer. For over 30 years, he has been noted for his work as a recording studio guitarist on more than 1,000 projects. Highlights a long career in the wave of pop, rock and popular music that includes works with Ilan Chester, Son by Four, Alejandro Montaner, Franco de Vita, Jon Secada, Thalía, Olga Tañon, Juan Gabriel, Elvis Crespo, José Luis Rodríguez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Ricky Martin, Armando Manzanero, Jennifer López, Shakira, Andrés Cepeda, Vinx, Il Divo, Fonseca and many more artists. Some of these projects were nominated or winners of Grammy Awards.

 

During the years 2004 and 2005 he toured as a guitarist with the English-born singer Engelberth Humperdinck through 20 cities in the US, several countries in Europe and the Asian continent.

 

At the beginning of 2005, he produced his album “Ofrendas”, released under the Fono Jazz Universal label. This CD is a collection of classical guitar pieces and some originals arranged for a Jazz group with a South American ethnic touch. It includes pieces by the composer Antonio Lauro and the maestro Francisco Tarrega.

 

Various artists have performed his songs. The song "Nothing Serious" was recorded by trumpeter Roy Hargrove and his CD was titled with the same name as the song.

 

Leo is widely recognized and acclaimed as a Jazz performer and lead guitarist, in which field he has had the opportunity to participate in projects alongside Tiger's Bacu (US, Canada and Japan Tour), The Bob Moses Band (Europe Tour), Paquito de Rivera and the Ensemble de la Habana (1988), Igor Buttman Quintet (Boston), and with Arturo Sandoval at the Jam Miami concert in 2000 where he shared with Chick Corea, Ed Calle, Claudio Roditi, Horacio (El Negro Hernández), Poncho Sánchez, Pete Escovedo, Dave Samuels and others.

 

As an accompanist, guitarist and producer he has been involved in projects and recordings with great musicians such as Lauryn Hill, Tony Succar with his “Unity Band" and “Mixtura Band", José Negroni, and many more Jazz and Latin Jazz musicians. Leo's collaboration with José Negroni on the CD “Negroni Piano + 9" was released by Sony and nominated for Latin Jazz Album at the 2015 Latin Grammy Awards.

 

Leo is also the exclusive artist for the world famous guitar brands Gibson Guitars and Godin Guitars.

 

In 2014, 2015 and 2016 he participated as a faculty member in the "Berklee Latino" (Educational Program of the Berklee College of Music in Boston), which took place in several countries such as Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Mexico.

 

He continues to participate as a producer, guitarist, composer and musical director for some national and international artists such as Miriam Stone and her band "The Blue Road Record Band".

 

As part of his teaching activities, it is important to mention that his student Néstor Rigaud was recently awarded the Grammy Award for Sound Engineer.

 

Leo Quintero continues to strive for the highest quality in his musical work and new ways to challenge his limitless creativity.

BIOGRAFÍA DE LEO QUINTERO

Leo es un  músico extraordinario, un compositor maravilloso y su  música sale del corazón. Escucha el CD “Ofrendas” y sabrás de lo que estoy hablando. Mike Stern.

 

Nacido en Caracas, Venezuela, es miembro de una dinastía de músicos y cantantes como su padre “El Negro” José Quintero  y sus hermanos Maricruz y Frank Quintero.

 

Graduado con honores (Cum Laude) en el Berklee  College of music, en Boston, de donde Leo fue miembro docente. (Desde el año 1991 hasta 1995).

 

Fue también estudiante de Charlie Banacos.

 

Anteriormente estudio en Venezuela como alumno de Vicente Emilio Sojo, Inocente Carreño, Aldemaro Romero y Manuel Enrique Pérez Díaz.

 

Leo comienza su carrera en la música popular a mediados de los años 70 con agrupaciones como Los Cuñaos, Frank Quintero, El Trabuco Venezolano y Vitas Brenner, tanto en calidad de instrumentista como de compositor.

 

Actualmente reside en la ciudad de Miami, Florida y es considerado uno de los mejores guitarristas. Por más de 30 años, se ha destacado por sus trabajos como guitarrista de estudios de grabación en más de 1.000 proyectos. Resalta una larga trayectoria en la onda del pop, el rock y de la música popular que incluye trabajos junto a Ilan Chester, Son by Four, Alejandro Montaner, Franco de Vita, Jon Secada, Thalía, Olga Tañon, Juan Gabriel, Elvis  Crespo, José Luis Rodríguez, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Ricky  Martin, Armando Manzanero, Jennifer López, Shakira, Andrés Cepeda, Vinx, Il Divo, Fonseca y muchos artistas más. Algunos de estos proyectos fueron nominados o ganadores de premios Grammy.

 

Durante los años 2004 y 2005 realizó una gira como guitarrista del cantante de origen inglés Engelberth Humperdinck por 20 ciudades de EEUU, varios países de Europa y del continente Asiático.

 

A principios de 2005 produce su disco “Ofrendas”, editado bajo el sello Fono Jazz Universal. Este CD es una colección de piezas de guitarra clásica y algunos originales arreglados para un grupo de Jazz con un toque étnico sudamericano. Incluye piezas del compositor Antonio Lauro y del maestro Francisco Tárrega.

 

Varios artistas han interpretado sus canciones. La canción “Nothing  Serious” fue grabada por el trompetista Roy Hargrove y su CD fue titulado con el mismo nombre de la canción.

 

Leo es ampliamente reconocido y aclamado como intérprete de Jazz y guitarrista principal, en cuyo ámbito ha tenido la oportunidad de participar en proyectos al lado de Tiger’s Bacu (Gira por EEUU, Canada y Japón), The Bob Moses Band (Gira por Europa), Paquito de Rivera  y el Ensemble de la Habana (1988), Igor Buttman Quintet ( Boston), y con Arturo Sandoval en el concierto Jam Miami en el año 2000 donde compartió con Chick Corea, Ed Calle, Claudio Roditi, Horacio (El Negro Hernández), Poncho Sánchez, Pete Escovedo, Dave Samuels y otros.

 

Como acompañante, guitarrista y productor ha estado involucrado en proyectos y grabaciones con grandes músicos como Lauryn Hill, Tony Succar con su “Unity Band” y “Mixtura Band”, José  Negroni,  y muchos más músicos de Jazz y Jazz  latino. La colaboración de Leo con José Negroni en el CD “Negroni Piano + 9”  fue lanzado por Sony y nominado como Álbum de Latin Jazz en los Latin Grammy 2015.

 

Leo es también artista exclusivo de las marcas de guitarra de fama mundial Gibson Guitars y Godin Guitars.

 

En 2014, 2015 y 2016 participó como miembro docente en el “Berklee Latino” (Programa educativo de Berklee  College of Music en Boston), que se llevó a cabo en varios países como Colombia, Perú, Chile y México.

 

Continúa participando como productor, guitarrista, compositor y director musical para algunos artistas nacionales e internacionales como por ejemplo Miriam Stone, con su banda "The Blue Road Record  Band”.

 

Como parte de sus actividades docentes, es importante mencionar que su alumno Néstor Rigaud, fue recientemente galardonado con el premio Grammy como Ingeniero de Sonido.

 

Leo Quintero sigue persiguiendo la más alta calidad en sus trabajos musicales y nuevas formas de  desafiar su creatividad ilimitada.

Currently I continue teaching guitar lessons via the internet.

 

At the beginning of 2020 I made some presentations:

  • With the band Instant Attracion.

  • With the Colombian folk singer Luz Angela Jiménez.

  • With the singer Miriam Stone, Cuban-American singer-songwriter (President of Blue Road Record Studios) at The Fish House Restaurant.

  • At the Miami Jazz Festival, with saxophonist Yainer Orta.

  • I played guitar with the Casas de Alabanza Church band, founded by Fania All Star singer Bobby Cruz and with Victor Papo Ortiz as musical director.

 

 

I participated in recording and music production sessions with:

  • The singer Lourdes Valentín, Puerto Rican composer.

  • With the arranger composer Alejandro Campos, including a version of the song “Lo mejor de tu vida”, which was popularized by the singer Julio Iglesias.

  • With the singer Frank Quintero, in the recording of the song “Te me Vas”, which had the participation of Rubén Márquez on the other guitar, Adolfo Herrera on drums, Pedro Navarro and Zorayma Luna on vocals.

  • From my studio I played guitar for recordings of the Haitian trumpeter Anderson Cameau. As well as Mario Cotto, who is producing a band in Honduras called "Cazabe".

  • With singer Miriam Stone in the production of 4 radio programs. The last program was broadcast on August 14, 2020, by the 88.9 FM Miami station and via the internet through www.wdna.org, where I had the opportunity to sing one of my musical compositions.

  • I worked on the production of a song for the singer Lisbeth, and for the singer Enrique Núñez with the production of Alfredo Aguilar.

 

Additionally, on that same date (August 14) I offered an online Jazz concert accompanied by Javier Eduardo Espinosa on the bass, and Kevin Abanto on the drums, which was broadcast through the www.golddata.live web page.

Actualmente continuo dictando clases de guitarra vía internet.

 

A principios del año 2020 realicé algunas presentaciones:                                                  

  • Con la banda Instant Attracion.

  • Con la cantante de folklore colombiano Luz Angela Jiménez.

Participé en sesiones de grabación y de producción musical con:

  • La cantante Lourdes Valentín, compositora portorriqueña.

  • Con el compositor arreglista Alejandro Campos, incluyendo una versión de la canción“Lo mejor de tu vida”, que fue popularizada por el cantante Julio Iglesias.

  • Con el cantante Frank Quintero, en la grabación del tema “Te me Vas”,que tuvo la participaciónde RubénMárquez en la otra guitarra, Adolfo Herrera en la batería, Pedro Navarro y Zorayma Luna en las voces.

  • Desde mi estudio ejecute toques de guitarra para grabaciones con el trompetista HaitianoAnderson Cameau. Igualmente para Mario Cotto, quien está produciendo una banda en Honduras llamada “Cazabe”.

  • Con la cantante Miriam Stone en la producción de 4 programas de radio. El último programa fue trasmitido el día 14 de agosto de 2020, por la emisora 88.9 FM Miami y vía interneta través de www.wdna.org, donde tuve la oportunidad de cantar una de mis composiciones musicales.

  • Trabajé en la producción de una canción para La cantante Lisbeth, y para el cantante Enrique Núñez con el productor Alfredo Aguilar.

 

Adicionalmente, en esa misma fecha (14 de agosto) ofrecí un concierto de Jazz vía online acompañado  por Javier Eduardo Espinosa en el bajo, y Kevin Abanto en la batería, el cual fue transmitido a través de la página www.golddata.live.
